Introducing an icon. Launched in 1956 the Rolex Day-Date was the first watch
in the world to show both the day of the week and the date at the same time.
Powered by the mighty 1556 calibre movement dressed with a solid 18k gold
pie pan dial. The 1803 sports a fluted bezel and was produced in yellow, rose
and white gold, as well as many coloured dial combinations. The Day-Date also
had the option to come with a solid gold bracelet, giving the watch head and
bracelet combination the name of ‘The President’ due to its popularity with US
Presidents.
Rewind are honoured to offer this sublime example of this late version Rolex
1803 from 1976. This watch is in an original unpolished state with great yellow
gold patina. The case is in such incredible condition that it looks as if it had
been recently been buffed. The Fluted Bezel is crisp as if it had just come out
the box and the lugs are sharp as new. There are some contact. marks on the
case back but we are leaving those as is; they would easily polish out.
This watch is powered by a freshly serviced 1556 non-quickset, 26 jewel
automatic movement. Officially Certified Day-Date Highly Accurate
Chronometer Movement with a 40 hour power reserve. The movement
produces 19800 beats per hour, giving this Rolex its famously smooth sweeping
second hand.
